Father's Day Gift #1

I have ten suggestions for Father's day gifts, and here's the first one. The rest will be posted as the day goes on.  First, a disclaimer.  I will receive a small commission on any item if you buy it off the link, but that's not why I picked them.  As with my Christmas Gifts for Men issue, these gifts are absolutely guaranteed to please dad, and at the same time tell him you actually thought ahead for a change.  Remember, when buying for men it's not important that they actually use the gift, only that they think they may, one day.  Here goes.

'FLASHMAN' BOOK SERIES
Creams his Jeans Rating:  70 on receipt; 95 after reading one

Unless your dad is very cool, chances are he hasn't read the Flashman series yet.  I suggest beginning with Flashman: From the Flashman Papers, 1839-1842, but you can't go wrong with any.  The gimmick is that one Harry Flashman -- a bounder, a cad, a coward, and a raconteur  of the first rank is inserted into actual historical events so masterfully, by author George McDonald Fraser, that my dad-in-law read three volumes before he figured out that Flashy was fictional (he was a very bright ex-naval officer and chemical engineer).  If you want to be a bit flashy yourself, add Flashman at the Charge (my favorite) and  Flashman in the Great Game for a three volume starter set.  Hurry, and you will receive them in time to read one or two yourself before Sunday (wash your hands and no eating while you read). Click on a book pic for more.

They're fantastic. The historical detail is minute, and accurate beyond belief.

Unlike yer dad, I knew all about Flashy -- the bully from "Tom Brown's Schooldays" -- and I always preferred the beastly bounder to the wussy Tom and Scud East.

Too bad The Mrs. can't buy them for me. I already own them all.
