Martin Luther King & Pool Boys



    I was interested to read Connie's  account of moving the du Toit household, and came across this delightful piece about the the 40th anniversary of Dr. Martin Luther King's "I have a Dream" speech.  It almost distracted me from the purpose of my visit, but not entirely. There was Connie's account of her fascination with the new pool boy, and how he unlocked her ...  or something like that.  Some things you just don't want to know; not with all those guns in the house.

Those who remember Jean Shepherd (WOR Radio) who was on each night, know he went to the March on Washington and spoke of it the next day. It may have been the most interesting and revealing account of what actually happened there, as opposed to what the reporters and celebrities said happened.

NPR has been covering the anniversary of the March on Washington. On Thursday August 28, 2003 they will be playing a 10 minute excerpt of Shep's August 29, 1963 show on which he talks about his own experiences the previous day. Visit npr.org for more information:
