In case you're not aware, Congress, for God
knows what reason, restricts satellite television providers (but not cable) from broadcasting other than the single closest market's local stations. In my case that's Baltimore, over Washington D.C., by a few miles. Cable customers can receive as many markets as the provider will transmit. For good reason, Baltimorons suffer an inferiority complex, and spitefully, for the second time in 2 weeks, their television
station opted out of showing the Redskin game.
Two weeks ago I sat in a chair with rabbit ears in hand, trying to keep
channel 5 in focus. That's enough of that shit. I called Direct TV and told them, either give
me D.C. local service, or I'm going to Comcast. Exactly 4 minutes
later I was watching the 'Skins. So, if you dislike the local channels
you receive from Direct TV, all you have to do is give them an "alternate
billing address" for the market you want. Beauty, I gave them the White House.

Hahahahaha, If I've said it once, I've said it a million times, you sir are a fucking genius!
Posted by: Casca on September 28, 2003 09:08 PMIt used to be a royal pain in the butt when living in DC during football season. The "blackout rules" for home markets made it impossible to get Redskins games in DC, duirng home games. We used to have to drive down to Fredericksburg, VA and rent a hotel room.
This, of course, was all in pre-cable days, the 'Skins were playing out of RFK, and they were a god-awful team, still with Billy Kilmer at QB.
Posted by: Hatcher on September 29, 2003 04:15 AMI grew up on a farm outside Youngstown, Ohio. Youngstown is 70 miles from Cleveland and 70 miles from Pittsburgh. The NFL rule at the time was to black out games in a 75 mile radius. As a result, we always got the San Francisco 49ers at New York Giants.
Now I live in the Boston, Massachusetts, area, and I still never get to see Cleveland or Pittsburgh (or Cincinnatti). But now there's a good reason, they suck.
Of course, folks with some initiative (and hardware & software & techie know-how) can take care of those things on their own & watch any market (or channel) they want with a few modifications to their access card.
Or, so I've read on the internet. :)
Posted by: RW on September 30, 2003 12:27 PMrodger, rodger, rodger. a skins fan? say it ain't so. it's not a question of feeling inferior to d.c., it's how the networks rammed the hated skins down our throats after we lost the colts. every week we had skins coverage whether we wanted it or not. many of us are old enough to remember the colts/skins rivalry before the afc came along and the forced skins coverage was the nfl's way of saying fuck you baltimore. we don't forget tagliabue's insults when we were going for an expansion team either. we've got a team now and would prefer our airwaves not be tainted by coverage of a team most uf us consider the enemy. a lot of people here feel more animosity for the skins than for the indy colts. take care and i will pray fervently for your conversion to our beloved ravens(god, i hate that fucking name).
