That excerpt comes at the end of White's exhaustive coverage of  everything that went wrong for Humphrey on West Virginia's primary day in 1960.  It's what I thought of when I saw this headline.

Hell, all us locals know better than to get caught speeding in Oklahoma....especially around McAlester. But then Mr. Acxiom Lobbyist isn't exactly a local.

Not many places in MD where 85 mph won't draw a gendarme either.
