We have met the enemy and, yada yada yada

In wartime, truth is so precious that she should always be attended by a bodyguard of lies.  - Winston Churchill

Senate Democrats    I'll leave it to you to decide whether Manuel Miranda ought to be punished for reading enemy e-mail,  and using it to demonstrate just how the filthy bastards operate.  Should Winston Churchill have been punished for using Enigma? And, didn't  Lt. Colonel West do pretty much the same thing?  He did if you, like me, see Democrats on the Senate Judiciary Committee as enemy combatants.  They're certainly my enemy, and Miranda it seems was about the only person in the American camp fighting them.  Now that he's about to be professionally executed, we're told
"[his]departure signals that Senate Republican leaders will likely pull back from confrontation over Bush’s judges. "
Pull back?  What really frosts me though, is Miranda "agreed to resign under pressure from Judiciary Committee Chairman Sen. Orrin Hatch (R-Utah)."  Orrin Hatch?  Has there ever been  such a monkey-humping, armpit-smelling, dick-guzzling, puss-nibbling, cock-brained lunkhead,  who didn't have a (D) at the end of his name?  Sheesh.

If it illegal for Mr. Miranda to use Democrat email to expose deceit, is it illegal for the gov't to back-door MY email using PROMIS software developed by Wm Hamilton et al @INSLAW in the early 80's?

Funny how when a conservative digs up dirt the uproar is over how the dirt was found. Nary a word was said when the Martins intercepted and recorded Newt Gingrich's phone conversation with their "truck-seat mounted Radio-Shack scanner". No investigation was done over the salient facts that the scanner they owned was new and therefore incapable of receiving cellular phone frequencies and the crystal clear recording could have only been made with a hard wired recorder. Mr. Miranda stumbles across what amounts to a crime being committed inside a house with the curtains open and he is held to task for looking and reporting it to the authorities. Republicans need to grow some balls and start defending themselves.
