This is all your fault

"North Carolina is moving to join a growing number  of states cracking down on methamphetamine dealers by limiting sales of cold tablets, putting them behind counters, or training store clerks to spot "suspicious" shoppers and report them to the police.
"Drug dealers hoard familiar remedies such as Sudafed for their active ingredients. A 48-tablet pack of Sudafed yields about .03 of an ounce of methamphetamine worth about $72 on the street, according to police.

Okay, I admit this is ludicrous, and I am willing to go the whole libertarian route on drugs just as soon as we become libertarian in other policy adjuncts. For instance, as an employer I want the right to fire outright any employee who fucks up on the job, or pisses me off, or who the other employees can't stand.  I want the right to see a job applicant's rap sheet, and the right to not hire him or her.  I  want the imprisonment or execution of anyone who commits a crime while under the influence of drugs.  I want an absolute proscription against using public funds to treat drug addiction (yes, alcohol too).  I want an absolute proscription against using public welfare to maintain any sorry ass's life what can't function because he's doing a 2 kilo doobie every day.  I want 100% personal responsibility imposed on my actions.  All of them. When you're ready to take responsibility for your own, then party on dude.  Them are my terms.

Similar to what my parents taught me. Of course the people who have to have these expectations explained to them after they are adults are already doomed. They are going through life with an endless list of officially acceptable (see recidivistic imperative) excuses for their failure to be responsible (alcohol, drugs, poverty, parents - or lack of, siblings - or lack of, and even completely unrelated events from other centuries).

It is only tragic that it needs to be said at all, and that it is so far from "mainstream" thought.

Rodger, Rodger, Rodger. There's a much simpler answer. Make Sudafed and all ephedrine products only available by prescription...like they used to be. Making them available OTC is what started the meth craze. Them unintended consequences will bite you in the ass every time.

And if you'd seen what I've seen of the consequences of meth use, you might change your mind about it. It's worse than you can possibly imagine. I'm not talking about the users themselves. I don't give a rat's ass about them. But they should all be shot for what they do to their kids and other innocent family members.

Remember, there's absolutely nothing a meth addict won't do to support their habit. And I do mean nothing....including knocking yours truly in the head when I'm walking to my car after work to get enough money to get another fix. There was even one man who got busted when he took the bike his kid got for Christmas back to the store to exchange it for meth fixin's.

That's pretty damn sorry.
