When 'Progressives' are in charge ...
A 13-year old asthmatic girl began having an attack on the bus ride home, but didn't have her inhaler. A quick-thinking friend who also had athsma quickly got her own inhaler and gave it to the girl, whose breathing was growing too difficult. Thanks to the second girl, the first one was fine. The mothers of both considered the act heroic, but the school, citing zero-tolerance drug policies, labelled the girl a "drug trafficker". That notation will stay in her school record for 3 years. One member of the University Planning Committee voiced concern when the UoP announced mandatory "racism seminars" for all their students. She said she felt mandatory seminars were unconstitutional and said she had "deep regard for the individual and my desire to protect the freedoms of all members of society." A university administrator sent the note back to the committee member with the word "individual" circled and in the margin had written, "This is a RED FLAG phrase today, which is considered by many to be RACIST. Arguments that champion the individual over the group ultimately privileges[sic] the individuals who belong to the largest or dominant group." Heh heh... 'individual' is racist. And, finally, my favorite for today: The Dade County School Board regretfully informed a computer-consulting firm that it was ineligible as a vendor because the business was not minority-owned. A business can qualify as minority-owned only if one minority group controls 51 percent of its assets. The company in question, Data Industries, is owned as a 50/50 partnership between a black man and a hispanic. A spokesman for the school board said he sympathized with Data Industries, but insisted that "a rule is a rule, and our rule says that there must be 51 percent ownership by one principal minority group." He went on to justify by saying, "We're just trying to preserve the integrity of the system," explaining that the county wants a "clear-cut" owner to avoid having minority businesses "sell out to white males." - Source, "Hey Idiot" |
Nice research
No one on the left has any common sense. That is why their decisions on life and politics are always wrong.
These bad decisions have brought death, deprivation, and destruction to the world for the past 120 years.
I've never seen a more eloquent argument for widespread civilian ownership of firearms.
Posted by: Spoons at March 6, 2004 11:27 AMNot to be a stickler, but for posts like this you really should post links to source material to help us decide whether these are facts, rumors, or funny liberal jokes.
The last thing I want to do is try to pass any of these off to someone else saying "I read this off a blog, but I think it's true..."
Posted by: Karl at March 6, 2004 01:33 PMThe source is the book I'm peddling on the left. Buy two:-)
Posted by: Rodger Schultz at March 6, 2004 04:14 PMHa! There it is. "Source" in big, bold letters. You'd have to be an idiot to miss that.
Point taken.
Posted by: Superego at March 6, 2004 10:53 PMI will admit I googled some of them and they are all true that I could find. The only one I could not find was about remembering women's name at UP.
It's a mad mad mad mad world.
Here's one about a kid thrown out of school for bringing a pair of scissors to his sewing class.

Why is it the same folks who think the "Three Strikes Law" is inhumane support insane "Zero Tolerance" policies like this one?
Just stumbled across your site and I'm a little bit confused by how these stories relate to being "liberal" or "progressive". I'm both and I think the behavior described is ridiculous and horrible. I don't know any liberals (except the ones in these stories, I guess) that would support these kinds of reactions to decent common sense. These sound more like aberrations from sanity and it seems like a failure of logic to use these stories as "proof" of the stupidity of the left. You can probably find equivalent stories of atrocities like this being committed by conservatives and it wouldn't be proof of conservatives as a whole being stupid. What's going on in these stories are insecure humans struggling for power and attention and that's not a purely left problem. We all love finding crazy stories about those we disagree with but to claim that these events represent the world we would live in if progressives had their way goes too far into fantasy. That's just as bad and unrealistic as the liberals who think the world would become an old-fashioned, Christian revival camp meeting with the nations second language being toungues if the right had their way.
Posted by: Fox at March 8, 2004 01:49 PMAh, the refreshing voice of reason... Thank you for instilling in me a little more hope for a sensible American public.
Frankly I think it is dangerous to ever label yourself as a liberal, conservative, or other because by definition you are then closing your mind to opposing points of view.

This, however, specifically applies to the left, and does give us a glimpse of what it will be like when they're in charge. Oh wait, they already are!
