Demanded? I think may have gone to
school with that guy. We used to give him wedgies for
being an unctious, ass-licking hugger-mugger. Anyway, so
far 58640 (53.3%) of responding Tribune readers are telling
Jones to pound sand.

I've listened to the self-aggrandizers who make headlines attacking teams with Indian nicknames. After reflection, I have changed my position.
If I were buying a sports team that had an Indian name (Indians, Braves, Redskins, and so on), I would change it at once. The reason is simple: The Indians are LOSERS!!! They were beat!!! Why name your club after the losing side in a war? Do we name clubs after the Japs or Krauts? We ought to be looking to name teams for the winners, not the losers.
The Redskins have an interesting out. They can always keep the name Redskins, but change the logo from an Indian chief to a potato. A redskin potato.

#1 - Stop spending my tax dollars on trying to make organizations change their names. (So I bumped it up the list a little.)
Actually, I dont think this mook should be allowed to use the name "Jones" as it was my grandmother's name and I dont want people to stereotype her with any of his self-righteous condemnation of others.

As a loyal Illini, I favor settling this once and for all as offered by another alum whose name I can't remember. The minute any Illini or descendant asks us to quit using the name Illini and/or Chief Illiniwek, we'll stop. (Of course, the Illini were slaughtered man, woman, and child by their angry neighbors about 200 years ago. There aren't any left.)
I do find it interesting that practically none of the protestors are either Native Americans to any significant degree, let alone any with connections to the tribes that at any time lived in Illinois, nor natives of even Illinois. About 15 years ago I stumbled onto one of the little groups of dump the Chief supporters and quickly found that the female leader claimed to be Native American, but was less that 1/16. So . . .
Other than that, the Chief, specifically, is not a mascot and is quite dignified, not an object of fun nor ridicule.
(Oh, yes, Terps are smallish, soft-shelled, and slow.)

Actually, we do appreciate any support we can get in opposition to these PC loons. They don't give up (evidently they are independently wealthy or something, since they don't seem to have jobs but do have plenty of time to protest the Chief). We have to keep pushing back.
Also, the university I currently work at changed its name from Hurons to Eagles. Lost a lot of alumni support. Even the Huron tribe didn't object. PC run amuk. Ptoooooeeeeey.

In fact, he was having such a good time, he forgot my name. He, in fact, is Conqueror of All Foes. I am the more understated Intimidator of Mobs. He also misrepresented what I said for comical effect.
