We don't need no stinking "Bay of Hummus"

PT 109 GI JOW, now worth $119.00
"Never in the last twenty years has the government of the United States been as isolated as it is today." John Kerry address to his 1966 Yale graduating class

So, Bill Clinton, oops I mean John Kerry, has loosed a record $25 million dollar campaign media blitz in the form of two television commercials.  Both  promote his plans for ...the story that he was a Vietnam war hero.  WTF? Is this guy a cartoon? I'm drawn back to this observation by some guy that seemed to make sense at the time, and now even more.
"I think it is instructive to understand what makes Kerry tick. He is an ambitious self-promoter who has parlayed his brief Vietnam experience into fame, fortune, and power. He can't let it go. ... What I glean from these two examples is that Kerry is caught in a time warp. He is totally obsessed with Vietnam and his decorations. I can't imagine anyone going back and amending their record that way. What could possibly be the purpose? This is sick. I would also add his recreating and filming his "battles" while being assigned to Vietnam and the Vietnam shrine he keeps in his home. It is all a case of image building, but what I find bizarre is the fact that he believes that he really is a "highly decorated war hero."
Like Clinton, Kerry was obsessed as a youth with JFK, but had the advantage of actually being a JFK, well jfk anyway.
He had volunteered to work on Edward Kennedy’s 1962 Senate campaign, had dated Janet Auchincloss, who was Jacqueline Kennedy’s half sister, had hung out at Hammersmith Farm, the Auchincloss family’s estate in Newport, and had gone sailing with the President.
Seriously, the guy told people that those initials would help make him president. Here's how nuts I think Kerry is.

In a speech to his Yale graduating class, Kerry condemned the Vietnam war even though he had already signed up with the Navy.  What was that about?  And then he requested command of a Navy Swift boat,  that era's version of the plywood PT Boat.  As in ... PT 109.     Stay with me here.

In his mind, John Kerry has taken one genuine risk in his entire life.  Having his political ticket punched with  military service was de rigueur for a JFK wannabe at the time.  Had to be Navy.  The prospect scared the crap out of him (smart guy) but he did it.  What else did he need?  Rescuing a boat mate from drowning would be a nice touch. Medals too.  And, guess what?  If he could get three Purple Hearts, he could ask for a transfer out of country.  Am I being a partisan swine for questioning the legitimacy of Kerry's medals?  Yes.  But, we can hardly hope for a Kerry sycophant to do the job, can we?

Read this NRO story [ Kerry Purple Heart Doc Speaks Out ]by Byron York, if you haven't already.  The doctor who treated Kerry for the first of his three Purple Heart injuries remembers it.  Why?  Maybe because the story Kerry told Louis Letson did not square with what Kerry's boat mates told at the time. Listen:

-- "The story he told was different from what his crewmen had to say about that night. According to Kerry, they had been engaged in a fire fight, receiving small arms fire from on shore. He said that his injury resulted from this enemy action.

"Some of his crew confided that they did not receive any fire from shore, but that Kerry had fired a mortar round at close range to some rocks on shore. The crewman thought that the injury was caused by a fragment ricocheting from that mortar round when it struck the rocks."

Sorry folks, there is but one conclusion any thinking person can  make after examining this guy's life.  He's insane. Oh, I know what you're saying, "But Rodge, if he is truly insane with the JFK/jfk thing, wouldn't he have engineered the "final chapter" as well?"  That's the rub.  He will, but only after he's elected President of the United States and has a "Bay of Hummus" debacle, and a Korean Missile Crisis.  It ain't worth it. Even Teresa Heinz Kerry says, " I ain't marrying no Greek guy." Okay, I made that part up. Sorry.

Excellent piece. Thank you.

This reaffirms everything I been able to dig up on the "Vietnam Hero".

We have to keep him in the spotlight, after all it's his show we're watching.

You mean, Kerry will arrange to have his head blown off by Osama bin Oswald?

You showed real insight bringing up the Navy. It seems to be a good stepping-stone to a career in politics now that you made me think of it. Bush I, Johnson, JFK, Perot and Carter all came from the Navy.

In contrast, I was in the National Guard so I can’t run for anything.
