You wanna know what's wrong with America? This is it, right here.

Every morning since 9/11, Donald Lamp has hung his American flag from the balcony of his Omaha apartment.

Management of the retirement community where he and his wife live - citing policy about maintaining the appearance of the building's exterior - wants him to lower the flag for good.

Lamp refuses. "I'm not about to take it down," the 89-year-old World War II veteran said.

Having had some practical experience is these matters, the fact that management failed to enforce the covenant for nearly three years will likely cause it to be ruled kaputski. Covenants are kind of like trade marks, protect them vigorously, or lose them. Aside from that, I cannot convey to you how infuriated I become over stories like this. In the good old days property manager Cathy McGrath would never have thought to make such a silly argument, probably out of fear for her life, limbs, and property. And, we liked it that way. Of course, if it was a solidarity flag for Gay Rights or Aids Awareness, or a banner bashing Bush, God, America or The Second Amendment, you'd have the ACLU on the manager like a hobo on a hot ham and cheese. They'd scream "freedom of expression!"

If the ACLU ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, eeeeeeeever came down on the conservative or even middle-of-the-road side of an issue, I'm sure the sun would rise in the west!

Lord, please give all the anti-American (and otherwise) idiots of the world a single collective neck for five minutes. And then Lord, let me get my hands around that neck. Amen.
