The Post decided to print Cheney's "fuck," instead of the accepted euphemistic "f---" normally used when quoting public figures using salty language - as in Hillary Clinton's " f---ing Jew bastard " (had the Post reported it). Here's their reasoning. "When the vice president of the United States says it to a senator in the way in which he did on the Senate floor, readers need to judge for themselves what the word is because we don't play games at The Washington Post and use dashes."Okay, but I personally I found Bill Clinton's advice to Juanita Braoddrick - after he raped her- to "Put some ice on that (lip he bit until it bled)," to be far, far more offensive, but what do I know? |
I gotta agree with the critics...
punching a senator in the nose would have been much more appropriate for a VP.
(but mebbe that's 'cause I'm not a smooth-talker like ol' Dick)
I applaud him. I like his words. And Style.
But, then again, my webLog is titled "We Swear".
And my first entry was:
Hey You -
Fuck Off
:)
Posted by _Jon at June 26, 2004 12:31 PMI'll say it again:
I still believe the word "fuck" mean "to till the land and make fertile."
If such is the case, wouldn't... strapping a plow on idiot donk Pat Leahy and having him spreading cow manure all over his body... be to our mutual benefit?
If the libs and the donks had half of a "fucking" brain, wouldn't you think they would want to... stop being a bunch of stuck up asshats and stop turning tricks... on the damned street corner?
SHIT MAN, WE'D HAVE FINISHED THIS HELL FORSAKEN WAR ON TERROR BY NOW!!!!
Posted by MoFiZiX Gr4FiX at June 26, 2004 12:45 PMI doubt Vice President Cheney actually said "fuck yourself."
Much more likely is that VP Cheney said, "Go fuck yourself."
What, is the Post trying to do, make VP Cheney look like some kind of limp-wristed panty-wearin mama's boy who never learned how to curse like a man?
I'd tell the Post what to do with itself, but I'd probably get misquoted.
Posted by The Comedian at June 26, 2004 01:34 PMIn summary, those fucking fuck face fuckers at the fucking Washington Post need to fucking go fuck themselves!
Posted by Rich at June 26, 2004 03:07 PMYes, the English (i.e. Britain) usage of the term fuck is to allow a field to go unused.
But the American usage stems from the ackronym of For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge.
See, in colonial days, it was illegal to have sex with a person whom you were not married to. And punishment was to be locked in the stockade in public view, with a sign over your head, indicating your crime that you were serving for.
Hence, the word, and it's association in America.
:)
ATTY Jon! Ya learn somfin every day! :p
Posted by MoFiZiX Gr4FiX at June 26, 2004 09:36 PMAcronyms were invented in 1943, I think RADAR might have been the first one. Snopes did something about this. Your version of this story makes more sense than most, but in colonial times, "A" stood for adultery. Maybe "F" was for fornication. I love the derivation of that one. Anyway, I'm just here to say that Saxon culture is superior to Norman culture in all ways. Kerry uses this Saxon term to express the unworthy, Norman sentiment, "I want people to think I'm cool". That's what makes it offensive.
